Changing of the Guard at HandsOn Genesee

After six years of service, Julia Zaher, our director of Volunteer Services at HandsOn Genesee and Resource Genesee is moving on to a new opportunity with the University of Michigan.

Under Julia's leadership, HandsOn Genesee was created: the brand, the web site, and the organization which connects volunteers with nonprofits and their volunteer opportunities. You may have also attended one of our HandsOn Genesee Volunteer Expos at the University of Michigan-Flint, an event which Julia created and spearheaded.

Last year, HandsOn Genesee was named Volunteer Center of the Year for the state of Michigan by the Michigan Nonprofit Association. It was also the recipient of a $15,000 grant through the Chase One America Innovation Awards. That grant allowed us to purchase of a van to aid in our efforts to serve the community.

Marvin

Marvin Diem has been right by Julia's side for the last five years. It is our pleasure to announce that Marvin has accepted the position of director of Volunteer Services.

Marvin has made so many important contributions to the work of HandsOn Genesee and Resource Genesee, including its Volunteer Expo. He has worked primarily with people who come to us from Genesee Shiawasee Michigan Works! and who are using volunteering as a means of increasing their job skills through a program known as PATH. Along with Julia, Marvin is well known to nonprofit partners in our area.

You will see Marvin driving our new van as he leads volunteers in a variety of opportunities in Flint and Genesee County!
